The University of Negros Occidental (UNO) was bought by the Order of Augustinian Recollects from the family of Dr. Antonio Lizares on May 25, 1962, and christened as University of Negros Occidental -Recoletos.  This year, 2022, we celebrate the 60th year of UNO-R as a recoletos institution.      UNO-R launched the celebration of its 60th year of UNO-R last May 25, 2022, with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass led by Fray Amadeo Lucero, OAR. He was joined by Fr. President, Fray Don H. Besana, OAR; Fray Jose Alden Alipin, OAR; Fray Cristituto Palomar, OAR and  Fray Persiuz Joseph Decena, OAR.

After the Thanksgiving Mass, a short launching program was held in the main lobby.  Fr. President, who is also the executive chairperson of UNO-R@60,  gave the opening remarks where he recalled the momentous events in the life of the university.  He said that there is a reason for rejoicing for this year we celebrate not only the UNO-R@60 but we also celebrate ONI-Talisay at 81 and ONI Bacolod @76 and UNO@65. He added that SIXTY stands for S – Synodality (walking together), I – Interiority,  X- Christ-centered, and TY – thank you.  He also reminded us that we should always need to be SSS,  which stands for Servant, steward, and shepherd in the community.

Dean Christopher Taclobos, co-chair of the logo-making Contest; Dr. Nena Samillano, co-chair of the Jingle-making contest; and Dr. Ma. Theresa Chavez, co-chair of the search for 60 UNO-R icons launched their respective programs.    Dr. Carlos Eduardo Legaspi, a member of the executive committee, gave the closing remarks.  Fr. Palomar blessed the exhibits while Dean Annabee Claur, co-chair of the UNO-R@60 exhibits committee with the Fr. President, religious and lay administrators opened the exhibits in the main lobby.

Other milestones of the university that are celebrated this year are its 81st Occidental Negros Institute (ONI)-Talisay foundation anniversary; the 76th anniversary of ONI-Bacolod(ONI); and the 65th anniversary of UNO-R as a university.
