UNO-R former Dean passes away

   His body lies in state at the St. Peter’s Memorial Chapel. His interment will be on Sunday, April 10 after the 10 am Mass at the Oratory of ST. Nicholas of Tolentino (UNO-R). Interment will be at Rolling Hills.

                Dr. Jose B. Ferraris passed away last April 4, 2016, at the age of 64.  He has spent the prime of his years at the University of Negros Occidental –Recoletos.  He served the university in various administrative positions.  He was hired as Dean of the Teachers’ College (College of Education) in 1984 and in 1986,he was appointed Dean of the UNO-R Graduate School.  He was then served as Director of the UNO-R Guidance Center in 1998 – 2004.  In 2003, he was appointed Assistant to the VP-Academics and was later appointed as VP – Academics,  a position exclusive for Religious administrators. Concurrent to his position as VP-Academics, he was also the Director of Research Planning and Development Office from May 2005 – May 2006.  He also served as interim Dean of the College of Criminology from April to May 2004.  Before his early retirement, he was appointed as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.  He retired from his services at UNO-R in 2009.                Prior to his employment at UNO-R, he was an instructor of Psychology; College Guidance Counselor; Guidance Director; School Publication Adviser; and School Drama Consultant at University of San Agustin (USA), Iloilo.              He was the one of the founding members of the Philippine Guidance and Personnel Association- Neg. Occ. Chapter.  He co-founded the Vanguards of Tagaste, a UNO-R religious organization.  He also served as President of Philippine Association for Teacher Education –Region VI (PAFTE)in 1988.  He was the adviser of the Most Outstanding Philippine Mental Health School unit in the City of Bacolod (1977-80).        He finished his basic education from Notre Dame in Soth Cotabato. He holds a degree in AB English received from the USA, Iloilo City in 1971 and a degree in Master of Arts in Education, Major in Guidance and Counselling from West Negros College in 1975 and his degree in Doctor of Philosophy –Educational Management  from the USA in 1983.
