UNO-R, SMART renew partnership


Bacolod City, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — The partnership between UNO-R and SMART Communications, Inc., has been renewed through a new Memorandum of Agreement for the SMART Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) signed July 5, 2019, at the University President’s Hall.

During a simple program, Dr. Owen Martir, Dean of the College of Engineering, gave the welcome note and the highlight of the MOA. Dr. Martir said that after 16 years, we renew the commitment of the University and SMART with each other. He outlined the 4 key points in the MOA. First, Smart’s commitment to improving their facilities in the campus; second, UNO-R will be helped by SMART for the student internship program and the Faculty immersion; third, the provisions for the ECE Laboratories; and fourth, the construction of a new “futuristic” tower. Meanwhile, Ms. Stephanie Orlino, SMART Communications, Inc., Education Program Head, SMART Public Affairs, in her message, said that they will provide UNO-R with the latest trends of the industry.

This MOA will not only provide software and digital technology but hardware as well. As their company shifts to contemporary tools, they will retool and repurpose the people involved in this partnership. She made mention of the global trend that is 5G technology. On the other hand, Fray Don H. Besana, OAR, university president, thanked the Lord for finally, we have the MOA signing. He said that the present administration is geared towards evangelization and with the MOA we are promoting values through communication. He said the partnership is “simply amazing” and with this, we now have “the power to lead”.

Evangelization means building communities and it will be easier for us to do foe we have the advantage in communication. He also reminded those present to embrace innovation and that we have to be leaders of innovation. He ended that the partnership is for the glory of God. The signing was done by Fray Besana, OAR for the university and Ms. Orlino for SMART Communications. This was witnessed by Mario Tamayo; Cynthia Capua, Senior academic Partnership Supervisor – Technology group; Fray Jose Alden Alipin, OAR and Dean Martir.
