CAVITE CITY–With the aim of highlighting SSC-R De Cavite’s goal of providing holistic education to every student, the “Green and Gold Festival 2019” officially launched on November 12 with the theme “Laugh Aspire Unwind Grow Heal”.
Previously known as simply the Intramural Games, the five-day institutional event now also includes academic and socio-cultural activities. The Sebastinian Community paraded through city thoroughfares to the Recoletos 4th Centennial Gymnasium for the Opening Program. Mrs. Maria Soledad T. Tubay, Director for Institutional Advancement, Parents and Alumni Relations, led the audience in a prayer, and afterwards Ms. Melissa B. Puti, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs, delivered the opening remarks in which she underscored the values that can be gained from the competitions. Shortly after, Mr. Enrique Gerome Garcia led his fellow athletes in taking the oath of sportsmanship. Mr. Junrex Hamac then ran along the gymnasium’s perimeter, bearing the intramural torch to the stage.
School President Rev. Fr. Rafael B. Pecson, OAR declared the Green and Gold Festival open. He received the torch from Hamac and lit the flame to applause from participants and spectators. Four teams competed for the coveted Cheerdance championship title. These were the STEM Roaring Lions and ABM Prowling Cheetahs from the Senior High School department, and the Black Panthers and Green Serpents from the tertiary level’s College of Engineering and Computer Studies and Institute of Nursing respectively. Ball games followed in the afternoon in the gymnasium and the Cañacao Campus quadrangle.
