BAGUIO CITY– During this pandemic, we can never be so sure.

This is the caution of Dorothy Joy Panelo, RN, Seminary Nurse, during the arrival of the returning seminarians last August 3, 2020.

“We can never know who is the carrier of the virus,” she said. “Therefore, it is an imperative to undergo the necessary protocols such as (the use of) footbaths, wearing of PPEs, and disinfection.”

Facing an unknown enemy, one cannot afford to take risks.

“It is important to be vigilant and be ready at all times,” Panelo warned. “You can contract the virus from almost anywhere.”

Following the health protocols set by the city government of Baguio, the returnees will undergo a 14-day strict quarantine that will end on August 17, 2020.

The first batch of the returnees composed of 21 seminarians are from the region of Luzon.

Earlier that day, the seminarians gathered at the Recollect administered St. Nicholas de Tolentino Parish at Quezon City before being fetched by the convoy chartered by the seminary.

Volunteer Frontliners

A separate dormitory located on the second floor of the new building of the seminary was set as the quarantine facility.

Bro. Justine Luis Zafra, a second year seminarian, said he can now somehow relate to the frontliners.

“No matter how worse the news is about the pandemic, nothing can compare to experiencing it firsthand,” he said. “Wearing all these PPEs and following all the necessary protocols made me understand the difficulty of being a frontliner.”

Bro. Zafra is one of the volunteer seminarians tasked to attend to the needs of the returning seminarians in the quarantine facility.

A week before the arrival of the seminarians, the volunteers underwent training with Dr. Justina Calibuso, MD, Seminary Physician, regarding disinfection of the facility and wearing of PPEs.
