Recoletos de Ledo welcomes IYD Cross

LEDO, PONTIANAK Indonesia-Paroki Santo Agustinos dari Hippo welcomes and receives IYD Cross (Indonesian Youth Day), the IYD Official Theme Song, and The Greatest Dream, which served as the opening salvo during the arrival last March 27, 2023.

Inclement weather and electricity interruptions did not hinder the youth (OMK-Orang Muda Katolik) in the acceptance of the IYD Cross, which was led by Fray Russel Lapidez, OAR, the Prior and the parish priest, and handed on by the Priest Moderator of Bengkayang Parish, together with more than fifty OMK from Bengkayang.

Fray Lapidez exhorted young people during the Con-celebrated English Mass about the importance of the cross of Christ. Dinner followed, and there was a short program wherein the youth groups from two parishes shared camaraderie and friendship through community singing and dancing.

OMK of Ledo gathered to pray the rosary in the evening of March 28. They had the Rosary in procession, and they were also bringing their intentions on a piece of paper, which they offered.

Day three of the activity (March 29) is the Holy Hour presided by Fray Jovy Gallego, OAR simultaneous with the Sacrament of Confession. It was a night of meditative reflection, which was concluded with the dancing of the IYD official theme song.

The afternoon of March 30 marked the last day of the stay of the IYD Cross in the parish. A short liturgy was celebrated. They touched the cross and asked God to strengthen them. Fray Jovy, the Youth Director reminded them, “…as we journey as one family (OMK-Ledo) may we be united and be strengthened as one community.” “Let us take our own crosses each day and follow Jesus,” he added.

The OMK Ledo brought the Cross to Sanggau Ledo Parish through a motorcade. They were accompanied by Fray Jovy Gallego, OAR and Fray Jhoben Rodriguez, OAR.

This activity is part of Indonesian Youth Day 2023, which will be held on June 26–30, 2023, at the Archdiocese of Palembang
