PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – The First Holy Communion is a significant event in the life of every Catholic. It renews, strengthens, and deepens one’s union with the Church and with Jesus. Held at San Nicholas de Tolentino Mission, the first Holy Communion of 79 students was administered on August 26, 2023. This was the first batch of communicants who were prepared to receive the Body of Christ.

Before the liturgical event, students were guided and taught by catechists regarding the importance and meaning of the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the necessary actions to be done prior to receiving the Body of Christ which included the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

On the day of the event, Fr. Jerome Virtudazo, OAR, the officiating priest, made it clear in his homily that the experience of one’s First Holy Communion is a spiritual milestone and should not be forgotten. He reminded the parents that at home, they are the first catechists who should guide their children in their spiritual growth. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of the sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving the Body of Christ.

Recoletos de Los Arcos is grateful for the success of this event as they led 79 communicants to take a more active role in their faith journey.
