The Visit of the Virgin of Antipolo to the St. Ezekiel Moreno Novitiate Recoletos
On August 3, 2024, the Order of Augustinian Recollects made a profoundly historic event as the Virgin of Antipolo visited the St. Ezekiel Moreno Novitiate Recoletos for the very first time. After 131 years, Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage was joyfully reunited with her beloved spiritual sons, the Augustinian Recollects.
The celebration began with a grand and solemn procession, with an air filled with reverence and anticipation. As the Virgin was carried through the streets, the community’s collective spirit soared, their faith visibly renewed. Fr. Reynante Tolentino, the rector of Antipolo Cathedral, presided over the Eucharistic Mass. In his homily, Fr. Tolentino expressed the community’s immense blessing in witnessing such a momentous occasion. He emphasized that whenever the Virgin descends from her throne, she bestows overflowing blessings upon all who venerate her. He encouraged the faithful to trust in the power of their prayers, assuring them that the Virgin raises their petitions to Jesus Christ.
At 2:30 PM, the community, along with visitors, parishioners, the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternity, the Recollect Augustinian Youth Antipolo, and the Confraternity of Augustinian Recollect Altar Servers, gathered for the Rosario Cantada. This melodic and prayerful rendition of the rosary, led by the Angono Wind Ensemble, created an atmosphere of serene spirituality. The harmonious melodies intertwined with heartfelt prayers, drawing everyone closer in faith and unity.
Following the Rosario Cantada, a conference was held with Fr. Emilio Quilatan, OAR, as the speaker. Fr. Quilatan captivated the audience with his deep insights into the history of the Virgin of Antipolo and the Augustinian Recollects. He recounted how the order became the dedicated stewards and parish priests of the Antipolo Cathedral, weaving a rich narrative that connected the past with the present. His words served as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy and devotion that have defined the relationship between the Virgin and the Augustinian Recollects.
As evening approached, the community gathered for evening prayer and shared a meal, reflecting on the day’s events with gratitude and joy. The reunion of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage with the Augustinian Recollects was not just a historic event but a deeply spiritual experience that touched the hearts of all who were present. It was a testament to the enduring faith and devotion that continues to bind the community together, a reminder of the divine blessings that flow through their unwavering belief in the Virgin’s intercession.
On August 4, after celebrating the Eucharistic Mass, the community bid a heartfelt farewell to the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, sending her back to her home with hearts full of love and devotion.
