Young Clergy Gather for Ongoing Formation and Fellowship at Talavera House of Prayer

Cebu City, January 16–17, 2025 — Young clergy and religious of the Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR) in their first five years of ministry convened at the Talavera House of Prayer for a two-day program focused on ongoing formation and fellowship. Organized by the Secretariat of Spirituality, Charism, and Permanent Formation (SSCPF), the event aimed to address the unique challenges of transitioning from seminary life to active ministry.
With the theme “Journeying Together: Strengthening Brotherhood and Resilience in Ministry,” the gathering provided a blend of conferences, workshops, and fellowship activities, fostering both spiritual growth and personal well-being among participants.

The program began with an opening Eucharistic celebration, followed by a keynote conference delivered by Most Reverend Socrates C. Mesiona, D.D., Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa, Palawan. The bishop offered invaluable insights on two key topics: “The Transition from Seminary to Parish Life” and “Balancing Ministry and Personal Spirituality.” His wisdom inspired deep reflection and discussions on navigating the complexities of pastoral ministry.
Interactive workshops encouraged participants to share their experiences and identify pressing challenges, including adapting to community life, managing parish responsibilities, and sustaining personal prayer and spiritual growth. The discussions were aimed at formulating a comprehensive and practical Transition Formation Program tailored to the needs of young clergy.

Beyond the formal sessions, the program featured activities such as group bonding, silent reflection, and evening prayers, cultivating a sense of fraternity and mutual support. Participants also enjoyed recreational activities that enhanced their fellowship and camaraderie.
Fr. Leander Barrot, OAR, President of the SSCPF, underscored the importance of the gathering: “This program goes beyond lectures; it is a journey of solidarity. Our young brothers are reminded that they are not alone in facing the demands and joys of ministry. The program you create today will not only assist you but also serve as a foundation for future generations. It is our shared legacy.”
The event concluded with participants presenting their recommendations for enhancing the Transition Formation Program, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness for the Order’s young clergy in the years to come.
Participants were also given the option to extend their stay and join the vibrant Sinulog Fiesta in Cebu City, adding a rich cultural and spiritual dimension to their experience.

This initiative highlights the Augustinian Recollects’ commitment to supporting their members through all stages of their ministry, fostering resilience, fraternity, and faithful service in their vocation.
