Gospel Bullet Points (Luke 10:25-37)
- This Sunday, our Lord shares a great sermon through the parable of the Good Samaritan. Here, the Lord has revealed who the real neighbor is and how to love our neighbor so that we can be saved. In the Gospel, Jesus was asked what to do to achieve eternal life. Christ said: “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.” “And who is my neighbor?” asked the scribe. Instead of giving a list of who their neighbor is, He, instead, told them a parable.
- We take note of three characters in the parable: 1. Priests and Levites: They thought they would be sullied if they were to hold the victim, and they would not be able to do the temple service. 2. Samaritan: He that showed true concern. The Jews and the Samaritans were mortal enemies. But at that time, the Samaritan did not think of this animosity. It was an unexpected move.
- The Levite and the Priest were afraid of what would happen to them if they approached the victim. But this is not what the Samaritan thought. The first thing he thought of was the safety of a person who needed help.
- When Jesus asked which of them showed the true love and concern, “The one who showed compassion,” he replied. And Jesus said – “Go and do the same … … and you will live.” This is also the Lord’s invitation to us this week!
