Fray Julius Marcos Installed as Local Prior of Recoletos de Tondo

TONDO, Manila – Fray Julius Marcos, OAR, was formally installed as the new Local Prior of Recoletos de Tondo during a ceremony integrated within the Holy Mass on July 21, 2025, at the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish in Tondo, Manila.

The installation rite, a significant event for the Augustinian Recollect community, saw Fray Marcos himself preside over the Holy Mass. A key moment of the ceremony was the Profession of Faith by Fray Marcos, which was received by Fray Bernard Amparado, OAR, Prior Provincial. This act formally signified Fray Marcos’s acceptance of his new leadership role and his commitment to the Augustinian Recollect charism.

During his homily, Fray Marcos shared his reflection on the nature of his role, stating that the position of local prior is not one to be “dreamed of.” This sentiment was affirmed by the Prior Provincial, who also addressed the faithful. Their shared message emphasized that leadership within the Augustinian Recollect order is not about prestige or personal ambition, but rather a demanding call to service and responsibility for the community.

The celebration was attended by members of the Recoletos de Tondo community, demonstrating their support and solidarity with their new prior. Also present were members of the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternity-Tondo Chapter, highlighting the strong ties between the friars and their lay collaborators in the Tondo area. Adding a personal touch to the momentous occasion, Fray Marcos’s biological sister was also present to witness the installation.

Fray Marcos’s installation marks a new chapter for Recoletos de Tondo as the community continues its mission of evangelization and service in the archdiocese, guided by a spirit of humble and dedicated leadership.
