Fray Selma Installed as New Local Prior of Recoletos de Manila
MANILA, Philippines – The community of Recoletos de Manila officially welcomed its new local prior, Fray Dionisio Selma, in a solemn installation rite held this morning, July 2, 2025, at the community chapel of San Sebastian Convent. The solemn ceremony, attended by the members of the community of San Sebastian Manila, marks a new chapter in the leadership of this historic community.
The installation rite, prescribed by the Ritual of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, took place during the Liturgy of the Word, presided over by the Prior Provincial, Fray Bernard Amparado. Fr. Selma formally accepted his new responsibilities through the Profession of Faith.
In his homily, Fr. Amparado emphasized the importance of leadership rooted in service and humility, drawing parallels to the example of Christ. He exhorted Fray Selma to be a shepherd to his flock, guiding them in faith and fostering a vibrant community life. He also acknowledged the responsibilities that come with the position, including overseeing the spiritual and temporal welfare of the friars and the various ministries of the community.
The installation was met with warmth and optimism by the Recoletos de Manila community. From his previous assignment as local prior of the St. Ezekiel Moreno Novitiate-Recoletos in Antipolo City, his new appointment comes at a time when the community continues its various apostolates, including parish work, education, and social services. The Recoletos de Manila community, a significant presence in the ecclesiastical landscape of Metro Manila, looks forward to Fray Selma’s leadership as they continue their mission of living out the Augustinian Recollect charism in contemporary society. The installation marks not just a change in leadership but a renewed commitment to their shared life and mission in the service of God and His people.
