First SARF Mindanao Regional Annual Reunion: A Resounding Success

PROSPERIDAD, AGUSAN DEL SUR – The Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternity (SARF) in Mindanao successfully held its First Mindanao Regional Annual Reunion on October 4, 2025, at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Mission Station in Los Arcos. Under the inspiring theme “One Mind, One Heart, One Spirit in SARF, United with God,” the gathering brought together members from various chapters for a day of spiritual renewal, fellowship, and significant rites.

A Day of Spiritual Reflection The reunion commenced promptly at 9:00 AM with a Holy Mass, concelebrated by the OAR friars. Fray Ronel P. Gealon, OAR, the SARF Provincial Spiritual Adviser, served as main presider and homilist. His message resonated deeply with attendees, emphasizing the Augustinian ideals of community and devotion.

A highlight of the morning was the sacred Rite of Admittance to the Trial Period, where 28 candidates expressed their desire to experience the life of a Secular Augustinian Recollect, driven by the mercy of God. During this meaningful rite, the candidates formally received the Rule of Life of the Secular Augustinian Recollects, signifying their commitment to embark on this spiritual journey. The candidates included 18 from SARF de San Nicolas de Tolentino Mission Station in Los Arcos, Agusan del Sur, and 10 from SARF de Nuestra Señora del Carmen Parish Chapter in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

A Program of Unity and Inspiration
Following the Mass, attendees enjoyed refreshments before proceeding with the program. Fray Renier I. Alviola, OAR, the SNDT Local Prior, delivered a warm welcome message, setting the tone for the day’s activities. Sis. Rosario B. Santuya, the SNDT Mission Station President and Pre-Trial member of SARF de Los Arcos, led the acknowledgement of participants with enthusiastic cheers.

The program featured intermission numbers from SARF de Dugmanon, SARF de Los Arcos, and the OAR Friars, adding entertainment and camaraderie. Parlor games engaged both Pre-Trial Members and guests, fostering a spirit of fun and interaction.

The spiritual journey continued with a message delivered by Fray Ronel P. Gealon, OAR, followed by an inspirational talk from Brother Edwin T. Ruiz, SAR, the SARF Provincial President, who shared insights on strengthening the fraternity’s mission. Sister Shirley S. Guibo, a SARF Pre-Trial member from Dugmanon, eloquently expressed words of gratitude on behalf of all participants.

The event culminated with a community singing of “Welcome to the Family,” symbolizing the unity and sense of belonging within the SARF community. Fray Jerome B. Virtudazo, OAR, the SARF de SNDT Spiritual Adviser, provided closing remarks, leaving attendees with a sense of inspiration and purpose.
