3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

The-Calling-of-the-First-Disciples

Gospel Bullet Points (Matthew 4:12-23)

  • When Jesus began his mission, he initially chose four fishermen to be his friends and apostles. In this selection, we observe a notable aspect of God’s work: Jesus chose very ordinary people.
  • These individuals were non-professionals, lacking wealth and social status. They came from the common people, engaged in everyday tasks, had no special education, and had no significant advantages. Jesus sought ordinary people who could carry out an assignment and excel in it. He chose these men, not for what they currently were, but for what they could become under his guidance and power.
  • The response of the first disciples to Christ’s call was prompt and immediate. No hesitation at all.
  • When the Lord calls us to serve, we must not hesitate because we believe we have little or nothing to offer. The Lord takes what ordinary people like us can provide and transforms it for greatness in His kingdom. Is there anything holding you back from fully committing yourself to God?
  • Give yourself fully to God; He will use you for greatness in His kingdom.
