Gospel Bullet Points (Matthew 13:24-43)

The Gospel says a lot of points this Sunday:

1. Nothing evil will ever come from the Lord.

If ever there is evil, it comes from the DEVIL. In the Gospel Jesus explains that to us: “the enemy who sows the weeds is the evil one.”

• Another point in the parable:

Paano nahasikan ng masamang damo? The gospel tells us that while everyone was asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds through his wheat and then went off. So, paano nahasikan ng masamang damo? Sila’y NATUTULOG. Kapag hindi tayo nagbabantay, madali tayong mahahasikan ng masamang damo. The theme of watching is very important in our Christian living. We are told in the scripture to always keep watch because the devil is like a roaring lion always looking for someone to devour. Remember that the devil always looks for the weakness of the person and attacks him where he is weak.

• Patience of God

The owner’s slaves came to him and said: “Do you want us to go out and pull out the weeds?” Ano ang sinabi ng Panginoon? “No, pull out the weeds, and you might take the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will order the harvesters. First collect the weeds and bundle them up to be burned, then gather the wheat into my barns.

• Our usual and immediate reaction is to try to uproot the weeds. The parable shows us how to be patient as the Lord is. He never loses his hope and easily gives up on us. Rather, He gives us all the opportunities to be converted. He always invites us his prodigal sons, to come back to our senses and return to him.
• Jesus is teaching us that when God allows both the weeds and the wheat to grow together—the good and the bad—it is because He wants the conversion of sinners and not their death. He does not love only the just and the good; he loves all, even the wicked, because they too are His creatures, and the only thing that He truly wants is that they change and reprogram their lives.
