Strengthening Faith and Fellowship: Highlights of the Recollect Augustinian Youth Planning in Cebu City
Talavera House of Prayer, Cebu City – The Recollect Augustinian Youth National Officers held their first-ever face-to-face planning session from June 15-16, 2024, in Cebu City, Philippines. The event commenced with Lauds, followed by breakfast and personal preparations. The planning session began with a talk by Rev. Fr. Leander Barrot, OAR, who discussed the history of the Recollect Augustinian Youth. Fr. Randolph “Randy” Castillo, Jr. OAR, the National Spiritual Director in 2004, shared the organization’s past challenges and accomplishments to provide context and guidance for the current planning efforts.
Following the talk, the national officers participated in an energizing activity led by their national secretary, Rea Mae Avila, to foster connection and collaboration. Throughout the planning, the officers were supported by their National Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Joseph Dexter Palagtiosa, OAR. Each officer shared their accomplishments and the challenges faced in their communities. This sharing aimed to inspire ideas for alleviating these challenges through strategic plans and activities that promote community growth and engagement.
During the session, each officer in charge of formation, liturgy, communication, and apostolate presented their proposed plans. The discussions included the upcoming Regional Recollect Augustinian Youth Summit, individual plans for each local group, and the activities for the national officers during their term. The planning concluded with a Holy Mass, a recap of their plans, and a fellowship event where the officers socialized and strengthened their bonds.
The second day of planning and team building began with a holy mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Dexter Palagtiosa, OAR, with concelebrated priests Rev. Fr. Mansueto, OAR, and Fr. Randy Castillo, Jr. OAR. Following the mass, the National Officers embarked on a tour that included visits to the revered Our Lady of Simala, the USJR Campus, and the Chapel of Holy Relics. This day was not only about planning but also about strengthening bonds and recharging spiritually. The youth engaged in these activities with a shared goal: to serve God by guiding their peers toward faith. It was a well-rounded experience that combined strategic planning with spiritual growth, ensuring that the officers were aligned and motivated.
