Gospel Bullet Points (Luke 12:32-48)
- Today’s gospel speaks about the coming of the Lord and how to prepare for it. The gospel uses images to make the point that “you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” One analogy presented is that of a thief in the night, who always comes unannounced. The Lord’s coming will come as a surprise to an unsuspecting world. Therefore, be watchful and ready! .
- And how do we prepare for the Lord’s coming? We take a hint from the story of the wise servant. He fulfilled the master’s directives even while the master was away. The master returns unexpectedly and notices the servant still carrying out the instructions. The best way then to prepare for His coming at the end of time is to live out His commands in our daily lives.
- Let us then live a life of faith and love in service to the Lord and neighbors so that whenever He comes, we shall be ready. And always remember the lesson we have from Abraham. He had to face as many difficulties as we have to face, but he always faced them with God, trusting in Him and not just depending on his power. That was how he grew in wisdom and holiness, and that’s the way we are to grow in wisdom and holiness, too, as we prepare for the coming of the Lord.
