Gospel Bullet Points (Matthew 11:25-30)
- “Come to me,” says the Lord, “for my yoke is easy and my burden light.” What does that mean? Does it mean that coming to Jesus will remove all hardships from our lives? No, not really. What it means is that coming to Jesus will enable us to endure and walk through any hardship we encounter in life.
- To take the yoke of Christ is to associate and identify ourselves with him. Our yoke becomes easy and the burden light when we are yoked with him—when we team up with him. If Jesus is our yoke-mate, we will not be pulling the yoke alone and by our power but together with Christ and by the strength that comes from him.
- Let us take note of some significant details. The yoke was designed for two animals. The instrument was used to bring the strength of two animals together in order to pull a load that was impossible for one animal to pull on its own. A yoke is always carried by two oxen. The reason Christ’s yoke is easy for us to carry is that he is carrying it with us and taking most of the weight. –onz, oar
