USJ-R Journalism and Communication Department receives JPII Award
CEBU CITY—The Department of Journalism and Communication of University of San Jose-Recoletos, chaired by Dr. Nestor Godofredo B. Ramirez, was hailed as this year’s recipient of the Pope John Paul II Award.
In a letter sent to Dr. Ramirez, the Pope John Paul II Award was first given in the year 2011 to give honor to the late pontiff, and now a saint, Pope St. John Paul II “who put the mass media into best use to send his message to people all over the world” (Letter of Fr. Rufino C. Sescon, Jr., Executive Director and Trustee of the Catholic Mass Media Awards, dated 5 November 2018).
USJ-R Journalism and Communication Department was chosen as a recipient because of its value-based works that are “strong tools for building an intelligent, discerning, and morally upright citizenry,” said Fr. Sescon.
In his Facebook post, Dr. Ramirez expressed his gratitude for the honor given to the department:
“I would like to thank God Almighty who makes all things possible and to my colleagues in the Department of Journalism and Communications of University of San Jose Recoletos for all the support and love to make this possible. To Bro. Tagoy Jakosalem, OAR who inspired and guided the department in conducting extension work and to Rev. Fr. Christopher C. Maspara, OAR, for the full support and inspiration and to Bishop Dennis Villarojo, DD, for his spiritual guidance and prayers. Kudos to all who contributed to this work in progress. Thank you Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) for the Pope John Paul II Award. Adelante!”
The 40th Catholic Mass Media Awards Night will be on November 14, 2018 at Star Theatre, Star City, CCP Complex, Pasay City.
