SPA holds a Seminar on Learner-Centered Pedagogy for the 21st Century Learner
Valencia, NEGROS ORIENTAL- Dr. Joi Gutierez from Saint Louis University (SLU) Baguio City, conducted a Seminar on Learner-Centered Pedagogy for the 21st-century learner at San Pedro Academy’s library on February 14, 2019. Registered participants from St. Augustine Academy, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental; Colegio San Nicolas de Tolentino – Recoletos, Talisay City Negros Occidental; University of San Jose Recoletos, Balamban, Cebu; and San Pedro Academy, Valencia, Negros Oriental were present during the seminar.
San Pedro Academy community welcomed the guests with a grand parade as they entered the school ground which lauded their arrival. The program proper then followed. Rev. Fr. James Dexter Tanquis, OAR, formally welcomed the guest speaker. Dr. Joi Gutierez expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality by the petrinian community. Students were dismissed early and afternoon classes were canceled due to the on-going program.
“Make teaching as your passion, love your profession,” said Dr. Gutierez during the seminar. “Students are diverse and do have different learning styles, so teachers should employ learner-centered strategies,” he added, referring to the teachers.
In the afternoon, the continuation of the seminar then started with an energizer. The guest speaker demonstrated some strategies in a classroom instruction emphasizing an effective and meaningful teaching-learning process for the learners. Giving of certificates and photo opportunity with the guest speaker took place.
Ms. Meriam Torres, the school’s TLE/MAPEH teacher, officially concluded the event by giving the concluding remarks.
