Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish Tondo, Manila

During his visit to Tondo, Pope Paul VI noted how extensive was the Sto. Niño de Tondo Parish in order to attend the spiritual needs of the people. This led to the plan initiated by the Archdioceses of Manila to divide the parish into four, one of which was entrusted to the Recollects.
March 16, 1971
Rufino Cardinal Santos officially erected the OLPGV parish, with Fr. Jesus Sobejano as its first parish priest.
April 4, 1971Â Â Â Â Â Â
A Sunday. First holy mass in this newly-created parish was held at a very small chapel along Sandico St., Tondo.
1971-1981Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
The same chapel a the corner of Matimtiman and Mithi Sts., adjacent to the Barrio Fuguso Basketball court, serve as parish church and center.
June 23, 1979Â Â Â Â
With the support of all barangay chairmen, Fr. Melchor Dano acquired a 1,204 sq. m. lot situated at Del Pan Tulungan Center Compound, along Tahimik St. Erstwhile Mayor Ramon Bagatsing negotiated the approval of the lease of the lot from former First Lady and Minister of Human Settlement Imelda Marcos, in favor of the church. To date, the church ground is a government property.

Laying down of the cornerstone and celebration of the mass by Jaime Cardinal Sin.

Visit of Pope John Paul II to the parish church which was yet 40% complete.

First mass inside the church which was then 75% complete.

The OLPGVP-Recoletos Biyaya Foundation, Inc. was legally recognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission and later registered at the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Renewal of the lease contract of the land. Major renovations and repainting of the church.
