Communion in the Augustinian family
The General Councils of the Augustinians, Augustinian Recollects and Discalced Augustinians held a meeting in which they highlighted the fraternity and the sense of family.
ROME–On February 14, 2020, the general councils of the three Augustinian orders–Order of St. Augustine, Order of Augustinian Recollects and Order of Discalced Augustinians–held a meeting in Rome to begin a path of communion and mutual collaboration in the dissemination of the thought and spirituality of Saint Augustine.
In some countries, such as Spain or Brazil, there are common initiatives in education or continuing education. On this occasion, the leaders of the Augustinians, Augustinian Recollects and Discalced Augustinians sat together and shared opinions about the reality of the teachings of St. Augustine.
The main objective of the meeting was the need to work together in two dimensions: ‘ad intra’, to reinforce the Augustinian charism of interiority and community, and ‘ad extra’, to transmit the wealth of the thought of St. Augustine for the service of the Church and evangelization.
The Augustinians, the Augustinian Recollects and the Discalced Augustinians are promoting together the cause of the proclamation of Saint Thomas of Villanueva as Doctor of the Church in various countries. The General Councils have committed themselves to meet at least once a year and to promote common celebrations.
